Helmut Ortner – MLE, summa cum laude, Imadec University Vienna, 2011, medal of the university for outstanding achievements; JSD, Yale Law School, participant in the program 2006-2010; 

ICC Masterclass, 2009; LLM, summa cum laude, Imadec University Vienna, 2008, medal of the university for outstanding achievements; LLM, Yale Law School, 2006, Fulbright Scholarship, Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship; Dr iur, summa cum laude, Innsbruck University, 2004, sub auspices presidents; Mag iur, summa cum laude, Innsbruck University, 2002; bar admission in New York and Austria – is a senior associate in WilmerHale's Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the International Arbitration Practice Group. He joined the Wilmer/Hale in 2011. 

Mr. Ortner focuses on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. He is experienced in arbitral practice and procedure in civil as well as common law systems. Mr. Ortner has acted as counsel as well as secretary to the tribunal in ad-hoc arbitrations and before major arbitral institutions (including ICC, LCIA and VIAC), at multiple seats and governed by a variety of substantive and procedural laws. He regularly counsels clients on conflict of laws issues and international enforcement of arbitration awards and judgments. 

Mr. Ortner is a regular speaker on international arbitration topics, and serves as a lecturer on comparative law and alternative dispute resolution at the University of Innsbruck and the Imadec University Vienna. He is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Vienna. In this capacity, Mr. Ortner also acts as coach for the team of the University of Vienna at the Willem C. VIS International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court.

Mr. Ortner has also published extensively on a variety of subjects and legal areas including topical issues of arbitration law.
