Topic and supervisor:in
If you are looking for a topic or a supervisor, we recommend that you first check the websites of the respective institutes to see which requirements you have to fulfill and which topics are supervised.
The topic and supervisor must be announced to the Dean of Studies using a form before the start of work. In any case, you must have formally completed the first stage of your studies and the PS "Methodology and Practice of Scientific Work" (M.1). To clarify whether your desired topic is still available, we recommend a topic query. You should discuss the resulting research results with your supervisor.
Of course, you can also change the topic and/or supervisor up until the submission of your thesis. In this case, this must be announced with a request for a change of thesis topic and/or superv isor.
Send the form by email to the Student Services Office. Please note that handwritten applications cannot be accepted.
The form of the thesis
- For data protection reasons, no affidavit may be included in the thesis; this must only be confirmed electronically upon submission!
- The following information must be included on the title page: Title of the thesis, your first and last name, the institute and the supervisor, place and year. If you don't want to do it yourself, you can findherea sample.
- Abstract in German and English (max. 4,000 characters each including spaces), as well as in the original language of the thesis if this is a third language.
- Font, layout, citation rules and the like are best discussed with your supervisor.
Submitting the thesis
The following steps are necessary for submission in UNIGRAZonline (you can find detailed guidelines here)
- Upload the PDF abstracts in UNIGRAZonline in "My theses" and fill in all mandatory fields;
- then upload the final version of your thesis as PDF/A in the entry mask for the abstracts;
- click on "Submit now" (after you have checked everything carefully): your supervisor will automatically be informed by e-mail that the abstracts are to be released;
- Plagiarism check: your thesis (PDF/A) will be subjected to a plagiarism check after approval by your supervisor and approval by the Dean. You will be informed by e-mail as soon as the check report has been sent to the reviewer.
Apply for your work to be blocked
If important legal or economic interests are jeopardized by the publication of the thesis (§ 86 para. 4 Universities Act), you can apply for the thesis to be blocked for a maximum of five years. During the embargo period, your thesis will not be publicly accessible. Fill out the application for blocking the thesis and send it, including a statement from your supervisor, to the Student Service Center by email immediately after submitting the thesis in UNIGRAZonline.
The degree
Are you about to graduate? Congratulations! There are a few administrative procedures and deadlines to consider before you can hold your degree certificate and graduation notice in your hands. We have summarized them for you here.
Have I completed all the courses?
To determine whether all requirements for graduation have been met, please note the following:
-
all achievements of the curriculum must be assigned to the degree program in Curriculum Support and appear as positively completed (if you cannot assign achievements yourself, please contact our Student Services Office);
-
Before you graduate, please send us the application for notification of the area of specialization 18W (also when completing the free combination). Please limit your information to the 16 credit hours provided, otherwise we will have to ask you to make corrections;
-
a list of your free electives must be included on the application for the diploma examination certificate, the assignment in the curriculum support is carried out by the advisors at the Dean's Office. Make sure that the courses listed are as close as possible to 12.5 ECTS (18W) or 14.5 ECTS (22W), otherwise we will have to ask you to shorten them;
-
a positive assessment of the final thesis and defense (18W) or diploma examination (22W) is available.
How do I get my certificate?
Once you have checked that all requirements for the degree have been met, send us the application for the diploma certificate including details of the free electives.
The degree certificate will be digitally signed by the responsible Vice Dean of Studies and sent to you by email (this usually takes between two and three weeks).
You will then receive your graduation certificate from the Admissions Office.
