Hello, Fellow: David Mangan

David Mangan joins us in March as Land Steiermark Senior Fellow and is hosted by Gert-Peter Reissner, Department of Labour Law and Social Security Law.

David Mangan is based in Ireland at Maynooth University’s School of Law (where he is founding Director of the Technology Law & Policy Centre). He is also: Associate Editor of the European Labour Law Journal; co-editor of Global Workplace Law & Policy.; adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (Professional Development) and the UC Lyon, Faculty of Law. David Mangan is also a barrister and solicitor (Ontario, Canada). His research investigates the influence of information technologies on employment law and private law obligations. Amongst others, he has published: Privacy@Work; a commentary on the GDPR (with Frank Hendrickx); “The platform discount: addressing unpaid work as a structural feature of labour platforms” (with Karol Muszyński and Valeria Pulignano); and a commentary on Article 7 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: A Commentary). He is very happy to be a Land Steiermark Fellow at the Department of Labour Law and Social Security Law. There, he is researching (with Verena Vinzenz) the right to disconnect. Austrian law’s approach is particularly instructive for this research. Mangan’s aim is to determine what legal entitlement workers can have to a sui generis employment claim for the “Right to Disconnect”. All the best for this endeavour and your stay here in Graz!

Do you want to discuss these and other aspects of labour law with our guest? If so, you are cordially invited to David Mangan's and Verena Vinzenz' workshop "Working Time, Availability and Private Life" on 26 March, 3:30pm. All details here.
