Didem Polad is a PhD researcher at the University of Helsinki, where she also completed her master’s degree in International Business Law. Her research interests are regulation of artificial intelligence, national tort laws, and product liability. She conducts her doctoral research on the liability for the private use of artificial intelligence.
At REWI Uni Graz, she is doing research under the supervision of Barbara Steininger at the Centre for European Private Law (ZEP). During the research period in Graz, she is examining whether the tort law regimes of Member States are adequate to cover damage caused by the private use of AI and will review what forms of liability may be appropriate in such contexts.
As the University of Graz is renowned for its strength in private and tort law and hosts leading scholars in these fields, Polad deemed the university to be an ideal setting for her research. She is hence looking forward to engaging with distinguished scholars, enriching her work with their insights, and learning from the university’s diverse research environment.
