The Graz Law Working Paper Series, launched in fall 2020, provides access to legal research undertaken at the Graz Law Faculty (Rewi Graz) for a broad scholarly public without a paywall.
The series contains scientific contributions from faculty members of the Graz Law Faculty, its doctoral students and visiting scholars and covers all legal subject areas including public law, private law, comparative law as well as interdisciplinary research.
The working paper series aim is to show the breadth and quality of legal research undertaken at the Graz Law Faculty. The eJournal is a compilation of papers published within the series in the previous year.
The working papers are regularly published electronically on SSRN. Additionally, it is possible to access the Graz Law Working Paper Series and to subscribe to the EJournal, which will be distributed again on the 25.02 at https://www.ssrn.com/index.cfm/en/graz-law-leg/.

Law from the Machine?

In ancient Greek, apò mēkhanês Theós (more well-known in Latin as "Deus ex machina") describes the way mythological figures appeared in theaters seemingly from thin air, instantly influencing the plot. Today, Artificial Intelligence might exert similar effects in legal proceedings. Students from our faculty are currently taking a deep dive into this matter in a human rights moot court competition, inter alia, in Greece - and they are doing so with great success.
