Hello, Fellow: Viktoriya Gurash

Gurash

Viktoriya Gurash, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich, joins us as Land Steiermark Junior Fellow in September and October. She will be working on a monograph entitled "The Risk of Fragmentation in International Climate Change Regulation".

Viktoriya Gurash commenced her role at the University of Zurich in May 2022, joining the ‘Climate Rights and Remedies’ Project. She holds an LL.M. in Public International Law from Leiden University and a PhD in Social Law from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Viktoriya has five years of experience as a case-processing lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights.

Viktoriya is currently working on a monograph entitled: The Risk of Fragmentation in International Climate Change Regulation. She explores how the UN climate regime and international human rights law intersect, and how this interaction contributes to the fight against climate change. Drawing on the theory of normative pluralism and fragmentation in international law, this research offers strategies for harmonising the efforts of various bodies involved in addressing climate change, each with overlapping state obligations.

Her research stay at the University of Graz will offer insightful new perspectives on her project, particularly as the university is a renowned center for public international law and human rights. This opportunity is invaluable in advancing her exploration of how international law can be interpreted and applied within the context of climate change.
