Filippo Costa Buranelli is Associate Professor of International Relations at the University of St Andrews (UK), where he is also Associate Fellow at the Centre for Global Law and Governance. Further, he is Associate Fellow at the Institute for the Study of International Politics in Milan, and advisor on Central Asia to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His research interests are International Relations theory, Eurasian and Central Asian regionalism, global governance and constitutionalism, international history, and qualitative research methods. While in Graz, he is working on a new understanding of Global Constitutionalism based on Costantino Mortati’s theory of the ‘material constitution’, thus exploring the grey area between law and politics and the deep normative and sociopolitical forces lying beneath the respective world order at a given time in history.
We asked Buranelli for his motivation to come to Graz and for some personal information he would like to share:
I have chosen to pursue this project at REWI Uni Graz primarily due to its reputation, ambition, and vibrant scholarly community, together with its disciplinary pluralism and inclusivity. In my (little) free time, I love playing tennis, doing photography, cooking, and singing all sorts of songs with my two-year-old son. I am very grateful to REWI Uni Graz for hosting me as Land Steiermark Senior Research Fellow!
