Arbër Ahmeti is a doctoral candidate at the University of Vienna, specializing in transitional justice and international criminal and procedural law. His doctoral research examines the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) and hybrid tribunals as transitional justice mechanisms.
During his stay at our faculty, he will pursue a project on the identification of requirements that derive from the normative framework of transitional justice and apply to hybrid tribunals. His project departs from the assumption that, for transitional justice initiatives to be successful, the respective mechanisms should fulfil certain requirements that are anchored in international law. Thus, developing a set of criteria applicable to hybrid tribunals, stemming from the norms, standards, and practices of transitional justice, will enable the evaluation of how the legal and institutional frameworks of hybrid tribunals, as well as their doctrinal approaches, enable them to fulfil the respective requirements of transitional justice. Ahmeti is looking forward to engaging with colleagues at the University of Graz and contributing to ongoing discussions on international law and post-conflict justice - and we are looking forward to welcoming him here at our faculty!
