Hello, Fellow: Albana Hana

Albana Hana is joining the Department for Civil Law, Foreign and Private International Law as Land Steiermark Senior Fellow.

Albana Hana is an independent Human Rights Researcher who joins our faculty as Land Steiermark Senior Fellow. She holds a double degree in law and psychology from the University of Tirana, an MA in ‘Democracy and Human Rights in Southeast Europe’ from the University of Bologna and the University of Sarajevo, and the doctor juris degree from the University of Hamburg, with a thesis on the principle of legal certainty. During the doctoral studies she conducted research at highly renowned institutes and universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law. Hana has been working in the public administration as well as in the private sector in Albania as an expert on EU-funded programmes and legal adviser.

During stay in Graz she is advancing her research in the area of privacy and data protection in Europe, comparing Albanian and Austrian law and legal practices on the matter, as well as on the latest developments in the field of neuro-technologies and their impact on (the right to) privacy. The University of Graz has provided unprecedented assistance to the Western Balkans’ countries in the consolidation of their legal culture, which shall by all means prove excellent for Hana too, particularly in her endeavor to contribute to Albania’s membership negotiations in the area of privacy and data protection law, as a trusted and professional source of information and expertise, all in view of ensuring more legal certainty for Albanian citizens.

Albana Hana's main hobbies inlcude travelling and literature.
