Cross Cultural Insight and Networking for Graz Law Students in
Conflict Resolution (court, mediation, arbitration, negotiation)
Sunday 16th August—Saturday 29th August 2015
The programme consists of
• a preparatory meeting in Graz (end of June);
• the two-week course in Exeter with host-family accom-
modation, and full academic programme mornings and
afternoons weekdays including classroom work, field
visits and interviews, networking events, excursions,
study time, project delivery;
• a follow-up meeting in Graz (TBA).
• Class-room based work on networking skills and prac-
tice
• Guest speakers
• Field research: visits and interviews with professional
practitioners in law and conflict resolution, as well as
with relevant members of the general public and stake-
holders (family, consumer and business issues), e.g.:
• Exeter magistrate courts and crown courts
• The Law School University of Exeter
• University of Exeter Legal Clinics
• University of Exeter Moot Court Director Kubo Macak
• Exeter advice and help centres on consumer, commer-
cial and family issues
• Solicitors, barristers, arbitration attorneys, mediation
lawyers, legal counselling services, consumer advice
and protection agency, international arbitration agency
in Exeter, Legal Aid providers, Devon Family Solu-
tions, Graduate career services (for law graduates), ex-
perts on English law and special fields
• Project work: paper and presentation - participants will
work on selected projects and develop reports on field
research and findings from a list of topics set before the
course starts to develop a comparative analysis of prac-
tices and perceptions in Styria and Devon (UK)

Successful participants of two meet-
ings in Graz plus the 2-week
programme in Exeter
• will be able to explain basic similarities and differences
of legal systems, as well as as of practices of alternative
dispute resolution in England and Austria;
• will have gained insight into institutions and procedures
to deal with relevant issues in family matters, consumer
affairs, and business practices in the Devon (UK);
• Will be able to report on contacts with practitioners in
Devon (UK) and compare and contrast practices with
those in Austria;
• Will have made personal contacts with various parties
as well as professional networks with institutions and
practitioners in Devon (UK) and understand their per-
spectives.
