Abdenour Zahzah's film about Frantz Fanon's work in a psychiatric hospital in Blida, Algiers, from 1953 to 1956 deals with the theme of imperial violence and psychological trauma.
In 1953, Frantz Fanon, a young black psychiatrist is appointed head doctor at the Blida-Joinville Hospital. He was putting his theories of ‘Institutional Psychotherapy’ into practice in opposition to the racist theories of the Algiers School of Psychiatry, while a war broke out in his own wards.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Bilgin Ayata, Enoka Ayemba, Milica Tomić, Abdenour Zahzah and others.
