The fast growing amount of data in urban settings and its analytical power can play an essential role in improving the quality of life in cities and adapting them to our future needs. In a project that has recently been granted an award by Cambridge University's Data Trust Initiative, REWI Professor of Law and Society in the Digital Age, Bilyana Pektova, looks into the new concept of urban data trusts and the potential it holds for bringing about positive change to data governance while addressing current and future data privacy challenges to our (smart) cities. In der Uni Graz-Serie „Clip & klar“ beleuchtet Klaus Poier (Institut für Öffentliches Recht) hier den Aspekt, ob eine Impfaktion besser zentralistisch oder föderalistisch organisiert werden kann, und geht Gert-Peter Reissner (Institut für Arbeitsrecht) hier auf die Frage ein, ob man gegenüber den Arbeitgeber_innen offenlegen muss, bereits geimpft worden zu sein oder nicht. In der Graz Law Working Paper Series erschien von Anja Krasser (Institut für Öffentliches Recht) hier ein Beitrag zum Thema Impfpflicht und Rechtsprechung des EGMR.

Information and communication technologies (ICT) have made life convenient. Countless services offer great opportunities to stay in touch or up-to-date and do not even cost a cent. However, if we choose to use these services, we often “pay” with our personal data. This can be considered quite a price to pay as IT businesses have earned a fortune with this new type of “currency”. Our Scholar of the Month, Elisabeth Staudegger (Institute of the Foundations of Law), looks into the question of how money generated with such data can be more fairly distributed and how the new concept of data ownership would contribute to it. In her research, the REWI professor further addresses the aspect of how fundamental rights and legal requirements can be taken into account at an early stage of IT product development, an effort which would considerably help design IT products that users can trust.
