Our curriculum at a glance
After more than 20 years of existence, our curriculum has undergone a general overhaul. The current curriculum is designed to equip you with the legal skills to meet the challenges of the 21st century. With innovative compulsory subjects, such as "Conflict and Conflict Resolution", we focus on interdisciplinarity, internationality and research-led teaching right from the start of the course. The modular structure of the course creates a better overview and gives you more orientation when planning your semester. Smaller examinations at the beginning of the course are designed to better support the transition from school to university and help prevent a high drop-out rate at this stage. The modular structure of the degree program also offers you a better structure for the transfer of knowledge and skills, from introduction to basic to advanced.
In focus: specialization in module N
The jewel in the crown of the curriculum is certainly the specialization module N. With a scope of 40 ECTS credits, it offers you the opportunity to devote yourself particularly intensively to those areas of law in which you see your professional future during your diploma studies. At the same time, it offers us plenty of scope for research-led teaching on currently relevant topics. This module is unique in Austria in this form. In addition, we have significantly simplified the recognition of foreign courses and increased the number of ECTS credits to be earned in a foreign language. This means that the international orientation of the REWI University of Graz is increasingly reflected not only in research, but also in teaching.
The entire course is divided into 14 modules, plus the diploma thesis and the diploma examination. The modules combine subject-related parts of the course: from the introductory module and the basic modules in private law and public law to subject-specific modules such as criminal law and criminal procedural law or corporate law to the in-depth modules or legal theory and methodology. The following modules stand out in particular: Module B, which takes an interdisciplinary look at the bigger picture, Module L, which covers European and international law, and Specialization Module N. With a few exceptions, you do not have to follow a specific order for the modules within the two sections (5 and 3 semesters respectively), but the modules help you to study in a structured way.
