The first stage...
The first stage of the curriculum serves as an orientation and introduction to the world of law and is the same for both the Bachelor's and Diploma programs. Your first week as a Bachelor student starts with The Legal Case as an introduction to the law. This is followed by an introduction to the most important areas of law: Public Law, Criminal Law, Private Law and European Law. The legal skills are supplemented by the practical lecture on research and legal IT skills.
After the first semester, you will become more familiar with different areas of law and gradually consolidate your knowledge. More specifically, this means that you will first be introduced to the profession of law and learn to legally classify and assess everyday situations and assign them to the individual specialist areas (e.g. private law and public law). At the same time, you will also get to know the world of a company better through the basic module Corporate Law.
Let's move on...
Once you have acquired the necessary basic knowledge, you will also recognize the connections between the various specialist disciplines. Then it's time to specialize in private law, public commercial law, accounting, taxes and financing, prevention and crisis management, intellectual property, competition and antitrust law, European law and project management for technicians.
The Business elective module (courses from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics) and the free electives allow you to pursue and deepen your interests.
Bachelor thesis
With your Bachelor's thesis, you show that you can work independently on an academic topic. When is the best time to start? Basically towards the end of your studies, but it is entirely up to you. The topic is determined together with your supervisor: it is only considered fixed when an agreement has been reached on the assumption of supervision. Only then will the responsible institute enter the topic of the Bachelor's thesis in UNIGRAZonline. The institute or the supervisor is responsible for the entire Bachelor's thesis process (no responsibility of the Department of Studies and Teaching or involvement of the Dean of Studies).
Foreign languages
The times when only the German language was relevant for a law degree are over. The challenges that lawyers have to solve also require language and life skills that transcend borders. This is why we place particular emphasis on an internationally oriented course of study: we offer a wide range of courses taught in English and actively support you in studying abroad for one or two semesters or completing an internship during your studies.
Before you can complete your Bachelor's degree, you must have completed two courses in English(Legal English for technical Professions and International Contract Practice in English).
