BB: Cultural Infrastructures, Europeanization, and Urban Transformation in Southeast Europe

Jasper Klomp (PhD) is a junior visiting research fellow in the Field of Excellence – Dimensions of Europeanization at the University of Graz. His current research focuses on the relation between cultural infrastructures, Europeanization, and urban transformation in Southeast Europe. The main topic of this lecture is recent urban changes in Ljubljana, in particular the repurposing of industrial buildings as cultural and creative spaces (Cukrarna Gallery and Rog Centre). Via these case studies, it will be argued that for the analysis of various dimensions of Europeanization in multidirectional processes of cultural infrastructure developments in SEE, a focus on cities and (elite / non-elite) urban actors is key.
