The Yugoslav wars, and in particular the long and bloody war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995), interrupted decades of peace in Europe - with the genocide in Srebrenica as the sad climax. The Dayton Agreement in 1995 finally ended the armed conflict and laid the foundation for a common state for Bosniaks, Serbians and Croats. But more than two decades after the peace agreement, the results are sobering. Although the outbreak of armed violence has been prevented, talk of peace in BiH seems cynical due to the many conflicts that have hardly been overcome.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the war, we want to deliver a summary of peace in BiH. Speakers and discussants will be Valentin Inzko (Austrian diplomat and former High Representative for BiH) and Joseph Marko (Prof. of Public Law and Political Science, constitutional expert, former judge of the Constitutional Court of BiH)

Moderation by Emma Lantschner (Center for Southeast European Studies, University of Graz)

An event organized by the Department of Global Governance of the Institute of Legal Studies together with the Center for Southeast European Studies and the Conflict - Peace - Democracy Cluster.
