REWI Fellowship Programme

The Faculty of Law offers a Fellowship Programme for outstanding international researchers. Fellows are given the opportunity to gain experience in an international scholarly environment and to benefit from the excellent know-how at the University of Graz while living in the “knowledge city Graz”, which provides a high quality of life and a dynamic as well as scientifically and culturally vibrant environment.

Each year, the Faculty of Law of the University of Graz offers a fellowship for international researchers to conduct their research on one or more of the following topics:

  • Human Rights
  • Smart Regulation
  • Law & Climate Change
  • Comparative Law with a focus on Austrian law
  • Interdisciplinary research projects with a legal focus

Other topics are also well-suited for the fellowship, provided there is a clear and well-argued advantage to working on them at the Faculty of Law of the University of Graz. Additionally, a Dean’s Fellowship without thematic restrictions is offered.

Senior Fellows (Post-Doc Researchers, Lecturers, Readers, Assistant Professors and Full Professors):

  • Exceptional achievements in their field and an internationally recognised reputation
  • Application with a CV, a list of publications, and a research proposal
  • Presentation of the research findings at the end of the fellowship
  • Teaching at least one course (at least 2 hours per week)
  • Excellent German or English language skills

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junior Fellows (either PhD candidates working on a dissertation in the field of law, or young practitioners with at least two years of practical experience after obtaining their law degrees):

  • LL.B (first-class honours), LL.M, or equivalent law degree
  • Either currently working on a PhD thesis in the field of law or at least two years of professional experience
  • Application with a CV, a list of publications, and a research outline (max. 2 pages A4), where the applicants explain how the fellowship would significantly increase the quality of their research project
  • Presentation of their research findings at the end of the fellowship as well as writing a fellowship report
  • Working on a specific publication project during the fellowship, where the author(s) need to declare that the publication was created (partly) during the fellowship
  • Excellent German or English language skills.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Dean’s Fellow can be either a Senior Fellow or a Junior Fellow and may only enter into the fellowship programme upon invitation by the Dean of the Faculty of Law.

The duration of the fellowships is between 2 and 6 months. The Dean’s Fellowship can last up to one year.

Senior Fellows will be provided with their own working space in an office; Junior Fellows will be provided with a working space in the library. All fellows will have access to the library’s resources and to a scanner/printer.

Senior Fellows receive 1,500 € per month, Junior Fellows 1,200 € per month. Additionally, travel expenses to and from Graz up to 1,000 € are covered.

The call for applications for the REWI Fellowship Programme (Land Steiermark Fellowship & Austrian Standards Fellowship) is open from 16 November until 31 December 2020.
